Rules overview

Some rules are predetermined by law, others are made by the casino itself. In the game of blackjack, the player encounters many variations which affect the chances of winning by affecting the house advantage. It is possible that all rules are not posted, so the player has to ask beforehand about them. Around 100 variations may exist in the game play. The casino at blackjack has a house advantage, similar to any other game. As long as the blackjack players use the basic strategy, the best available, the house advantage of the casino is less than 1%. This is in huge favor to the player as compared to any other card games available in the casino.
Each casino puts up a rule whether the dealer hits a soft 17 or not. The “Hit soft 17” game is less favorable to the player, as it makes the house advantage about 0.2% higher.
As all the things are equal, less number of decks is more favorable for the player. The number of decks used also plays a major role in the chances of winning.
Some casinos also offer an option of surrender which allows the player to give up his bet and hence not play the hand. This variation still exists in certain countries.
The resplit option is also present in many casinos. Some casinos allow unlimited splitting of cards other than aces. If the player splits cards other than the pairs of aces and a 3rd card of that value appears, the player can re split by betting the same amount as the original bet.
